A girder however might have to touch two girders of different colours to itself, or might have to balance on a single other girder. When even your worst mistakes can be stepping stones toward becoming the hottest man, there’s no reason to regret them.

Someone might need one more award to win the game, or they might be one safety violation away from exiting early. Well, not so much – you’re going to be asked to do some things that are not quite standard building procedure.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. A mix of straightforward rules and gameplay simple enough for younger gamers to join in mean that most balance games go down well here, with some of our gaming friends and relatives being slightly less hardcore than others.

What shouldn’t surprise anyone who is familiar with Pretzel Games is that the components are excellent. On the other hand, some of the most rewarding moments in Men at Work emerge from the creation of the construction site. The construction grows higher and higher, and before long, the steel girders reach dizzying heights. But we’re not here to talk about the Australian National Anthem, we’re here for Men at Work the board game, a 2-4 player hands-on building construction game from Pretzel Games.Sure, you have to have some skill in placing the construction bits, but you always have some choices in where to put them, and there are usually options that at least might work. Thankfully, even though clean-up is the same, if a worker, beam or brick falls into the insert you do not have to remove them. If you’ve not played a dexterity game, they are infuriatingly joyous and have you twitching with excitement and trepidation. This probably isn’t something you would guess about me, but I can be a bit snobbish about stacking games.

Instead, let’s talk about why Rita Modl’s Men at Work is one of the world’s perfectest stacking games ever. No matter what’s happening in Men at Work, regardless of who’s winning or whose turn it is, everyone is always engaged and at least smiling, if not laughing. You can test where you want to place it first before committing but if you cause anything to fall it counts as an accident. When a player causes an accident, they immediately finish their turn and relinquish a safety certificate.

The building components and the meeples are all wood (well, minus those hats) and are smooth with no rough areas or imperfections. Played it lots as 2 player and even tried a 3 player game with our 4 year old daughter which wasn't entirely unsuccessful.
